13 Weeks to go…sh*ts about to get SERIOUS! 🙂
So – here I am 13 Weeks out from the WBFF US Central Championship in Kansas City, MO! I’ve been putting in a LOT of hard work, but it all comes down to these next 90 days I have ahead of me. Bear with me…this post is going to get deep!
On Self Awareness and Introspection…I know – sounds boring, but it’s a crucial topic that I must address and keep on the front of my mind on a daily basis if I want to be successful (with anything…not just this competition). I urge you to keep your goals in mind while reading this (fitness goals, personal goals, financial goals)…whatever your personal goals may be!
“The only person who can pull me down is myself, and I’m not going to let myself pull me down anymore.”
― C. JoyBell C.
I read this quote a long time ago and it really has stuck with me ever since. We all have hopes, dreams, aspirations…these are things that we strive for, work for, and either ATTAIN or let go of (unfortunately). There is nothing more depressing for me to see than a person who feels defeated by their own goals that they’ve set. Yes- goals should be measurable, attainable, and realistic. But – it’s those goals that we set ABOVE the bar that are the true measure of our determination, persistence, and perseverance. These are the goals that test us and make us stronger – in mind and body.
We all know people (maybe you are one of them) that have been told time and time again that you can’t do something…you aren’t good enough…you won’t succeed, so don’t even try. There are people that haven’t been given positive reinforcement their entire life, rather the opposite and it is quite sad. But – you can’t be a victim of your past or your circumstance. You are the only individual responsible for turning that around – no matter how you were raised or what life experiences you’ve been through. What I have learned is that this life is truly what you make it. My advice to you (and a reminder to me) is to stop getting in your own way of success. Forget about the people who spread negativity. They would love to drag you down to their miserable level. Don’t let it happen. Rise above it and make your life what YOU truly want it to be. What are you waiting for?
By taking a second to look inside (a little INTROSPECTION), you will find that your soul can be awaken – no matter how dark of a place your past has made it. I used to be one of those people that would dwell on things like my family history, girls in high school being NOT so nice to me, boys that treated me like shit, etc etc etc…the list goes on. I can’t believe how much TIME and EMOTION I was wasting on these things that I had no control over! I cannot change my past circumstances, nor would I want to at this point – because I’ve grown from all of those experiences. I chose not to be a victim of those circumstances and to really dig deep and discover what I wanted my life to become. I found out a lot about myself.
It’s a confusing time in your 20’s when you are finding out who you really are. I believe that you’ve always been what you are…it just takes a little self discovery to reach your full potential. If you asked me even 1 year ago if I would ever do a Fitness Competition – prancing around stage in a BIKINI to be JUDGED on my poise and physique – I would have told you that you don’t know me at all! I don’t know what it was in the last year or so, but something really changed me and the way I treat and think of myself. Honestly- I think it was my son. 🙂 I’ve been told a lot of times that I can’t do things…I won’t be good at things. <—–WRONG! I created a life – gave birth for God sake! And I’m leading this little human through life….this experience woke me up a little and something clicked…”I can literally do anything”. That’s what I began to think. Carter saved me from a lot of negative thoughts and views I had of myself that used to really drag me down. Truly a gift.
Where am I going with all of this…think of your goals that you’ve set for yourself. Are they high enough? CHALLENGE YOURSELF! Find out what you are made of. Will you always succeed? No. It’s what you make of your “Failures” that will make you successful in the long run. Don’t be a victim of your past…be present. Make your life what you want it to be NOW. Don’t waste any more time. The only thing in between you and reaching your goals is yourself. Don’t stand in your own way, and most importantly – Stop being afraid. You’ll be amazed at what you’re actually capable of.
Success is on the horizon!
