Here we are at the end of January. Was this not the longest month of your life? Just me? I am sure that you set some “New Years Resolutions”. How are those going for you? Did you write them down? Did you take the time to put a plan in place to achieve those goals? Or did you just speak them in your mind and hope that this would be the year that you achieved them? If you think you’ve been successful…just keep reading…you still may be able to improve in some areas.
What is it about a new year, even a new week, that brings a sense of determination and commitment? I agree that it is a GREAT time to set goals and figure out what it is you want to achieve. However, if you find yourself failing year after year – you’ve got to take a deeper look at WHY you might be failing and WHAT you need to do to break that cycle.
Here comes the reality check. Ready? You aren’t uncomfortable enough yet. That’s it. You’re OK and content being where you’re at. You might be saying, No Ashlee. I’m not ok with where I’m at. I cry every day because I’m so uncomfortable in my skin, in my job, in my LIFE. Ok…so my next question is – what are you DOING about it besides crying? Because if you’re not taking action – that tells me that you really don’t care about yourself enough to make the changes. If you weren’t ok with it, you would change. That is the SIMPLE truth.
Some could argue that it’s a lack of knowledge/resources/money that is holding them back. Simple solution – REACH OUT. There is a wealth of information at your fingertips on the internet…but also more than a million opinions and gimmicks on what the best way to achieve your goals are. Reach out to a professional that you trust. Figure out who that person (or people) is. And then STICK WITH THEM. The second you start seeking out information from multiple sources, you’re screwed. Everyone has different ideas and you’re just going to confuse yourself. Commit to whatever process it is you start, trust who you’re working with, and fucking STAY THE COURSE. For the love of God – trust the process. Don’t give 25% of yourself to 4 different programs with different approaches. Give 100% of yourself to ONE program, ONE plan, ONE MASSIVE goal…and you’re going to achieve it. You will.
This brings me to my next topic – GOALS. How big are your goals? Do you play it safe, setting the bar low enough so that you can hop over the hurdle and call it an achievement? Or do you set that bar high, SCARY high? You should. Everyone has different ideas on this. We’ve all seen the acronym that says goals should be S.M.A.R.T. (Specific. Measurable. Attainable. Realistic. Timely.) I agree with the majority of that statement. However – some of the greatest things I’ve achieved in life I had to have BLIND confidence that I could achieve them because I truly did not think they were attainable when I set them in place. If you’re anything like me, you doubt yourself from time to time. You need other people to help encourage you and help you believe in yourself every now and then. That is the type of person I am and I am SO LUCKY to have the right people in my life to stretch me. To push me. To believe in me when I don’t believe in myself.
Following? Now I must talk about the PEOPLE you choose to surround yourself with. How are you going to excel in life if you don’t connect with people who are like-minded, successful, and inspiring? Do you have people in your life who constantly co-sign your bullshit? (I stole that line from a good friend, Vanessa, and I freaking love it). For real – if you’re full of excuses and not living up to your potential – do you have friends that are real with you and tell you to drop the excuses? Or do you have friends that tell you it’s ok…that you’re a victim of circumstance…that you’re doing the best you can when they know different? While it’s nice to be validated when you’re having a pity party – I have way more respect for the friends that tell me they know I can do better. Those are the ones that you need to surround yourself with. No one cares about your bullshit excuses.
Where am I going with all of this? I want to help you. I want to be real with you. I want to help you set your goals, figure out a plan, and achieve those goals. I want to inspire you. Am I perfect? Do I have all the answers? Absolutely not. Not everyone agrees with my approach. Not everyone thinks my brutally honest nature is the most helpful. And it may not be for some people. Maybe you’re not ready for the truth. Maybe you want to live a little bit longer in that gray area between “comfortable” and “successful”. But if you NEED this – I am here. If you want to push outside of your comfort zones – I am here. If you want so desperately to succeed – then I am here to help. If you haven’t set a goal yet that scares the sh*t out of you – NOW is the time to do it. Trust me when I say it’s absolutely exhilarating!! Here is my goal that scared the life out of me…stepping on stage in Las Vegas for the WBFF World’s Bikini model competition. This thing was broadcasted LIVE. Do you know how scary that is?! Did I think I would place? Absolutely not! Did I think I would win my Pro Card? Nope. I did both.
And now I’m brainstorming new SCARY goals and it’s so much FUN!
So now that we’ve had this nice little “talk”, tell me – how are your new years resolutions coming and do you need help? We can talk business, finances, fitness, nutrition, whatever you want! I’m here. There’s your “Monday Motivation” to sip on. 😉
